By far, the most common type of injury in a skilled nursing facility is the slip and fall. Elderly people fall for all sorts of reasons and nursing homes have a duty of care to provide a safe environment in which to move. Causes of falls range from failure to monitor the effects of medications, to failing to keep the room or hallway clean of clutter, to failing to monitor changes in vision or balance. The nursing home owes the patient the duty of care to prevent these types of injuries.
